French doctors perform successful partial face transplant
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
In Northern France, Dr. Jean-Michel Dubernard of Amiens University Hospital claims that he and his colleagues have performed the first successful partial face transplant on a patient who was viciously attacked by a dog.
Doctors in northern France say they have performed the first partial face transplant on a woman whose face was disfigured after a dog attack.
The grafted tissue came from another woman who had been declared brain-dead, with the consent of her family.
A joint statement from hospitals in both Lyon and Amiens, France, say the surgery took place in Amiens on a 38-year-old woman, replacing her nose, lips and chin.
The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, is in "excellent" condition and the transplanted organs look "normal," the statement says.
Dr. Jean-Michel Dubernard, one of the surgeons who performed the transplant at Amiens University Hospital, told The Associated Press the transplant was the world's first of its kind.
