New Zealand healthcare system draws criticism for lack of supervision and control of patients
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
New Zealand-based NewsTalk talks about recent crimes perpetrated by mental health patients, and how the occurrences point to the need for major reform in the country's mental healthcare system, including increased supervision of troubled patients.
The father of a man killed by a mental health patient six years ago says west Auckland's latest drama is a sign change is needed in the mental health system.
A 31-year-old man is in hospital after being shot by police following a stabbing drama in Henderson on Monday which left one man dead and two others injured.
The man has been charged with assault and police say more charges are likely.
News that the man is a mental health patient comes as no shock to Brian Beggs.
Mr Beggs' son Malcolm was killed by schizophrenic Lachlan Jones in 1999.
He says mental health patients need greater supervision within the community.
He says without change such tragedies will continue.
