Senate approves $50 billion for counterterrorism in Middle East

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

In a recent vote, the U.S. Senate approved a measure to provide President Bush with an additional $50 billion dollars for counterterrorism efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan, bringing the total cost of those operations to $350 billion.

As public support for Iraq fighting is slipping, the Senate votes Friday to give President Bush $50 billion more for conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan and U.S. military efforts against terrorism. The money would increase total spending for the operations to more than $350 billion. In a 97-0 vote, the republican-controlled Senate approved the money as part of a $445 billion military spending bill for the budget year that began Oct. 1. The measure would also put restrictions on the treatment of detainees who are suspected terrorists --- a provision that has drawn a White House veto threat. Passage comes at a time when public support for Bush has declined while U.S. casualties have climbed.
