DOE offers manufacturers a chance to increase their energy savings

The Department of Energy, as part of a national energy saving effort, now offers manufacturing plants free assessments of their energy efficiency.
DOE is currently accepting applications from U.S. manufacturing facilities for free, comprehensive energy assessments through its Industrial Energy Saving Teams program.
The program, launched on October 3rd as part of a national energy saving effort, seeks to improve the energy efficiency of the most energy-intensive manufacturing facilities in the United States.
DOE Energy Saving Teams will work with individual facilities to identify opportunities to save energy and money, primarily by focusing on steam and process heating systems.
The application period for the first round of assessments began on November 8th and closes on December 9th.
The application form is available on a new "Save Energy Now" Web page, provided by the Industrial Technologies Program, part of DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
The Web page also includes a series of 15 free informational brochures that provide energy-saving tips for industrial plants.
The effort is part of DOE's national "Easy Ways to Save Energy" campaign, which also includes a consumer outreach and education initiative and the deployment of Energy Saving Expert Teams to large federal facilities.
