UK approves use of cannabis-based drug for MS patients

UK drug minister Paul Goggins has approved the use of Sativex, a cannabis-based treatment, for patients suffering from multiple sclerosis.



A small number of patients will be allowed an unlicensed cannabis-based treatment for multiple sclerosis. Paul Goggins, the drugs minister, has approved the use of Sativex following requests from individual patients and doctors. The treatment, in which the principle active components are cannabinoids, medically therapeutic products of cannabis, is administered as a spray under the tongue or on the inside of the cheek.
