Animal extremists will be punished under terrorist laws in UK

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

In a surprising announcement, British Home Secretary Charles Clarke stated that animal extremists who defend animal rights with terroristic acts will be punished in the same fashion as al-Qaida.

"Animal rights terrorism is something that has to be attacked," Clarke said. "Those who argue that committing violent acts of terror to promote the cause of animal rights ... Clark cited a July attack at Oxford University, where construction was halted on a new animal research laboratory, as the kind of terrorist offense that could land violators in jail for up to seven years. Huntingdon Life Sciences, Britain's largest animal research facility, welcomed the government's decision. However, industry sources told The Times of London they were surprised by Clarke's decision. "There is a genuine concern from within the industry that labeling animal extremists as terrorists could get in the way of enforcement. I suspect that the police don't really want this," the source said. The source said current laws are sufficient to punish "the more serious offenses that are now being committed in the name of animal rights activism."
