A stay in the salt mines of Ukraine could cure childhood asthma

Clinics across Europe claim that prolonged breathing in an environment filled with salt ions can cure children of asthma.



BEING sent to the salt mines was a fate worse than death for dissidents in the old Soviet Union - now they're being used to cure kids of asthma. Children are sent to Solotvino, Ukraine, to spend a few hours a day 900ft underground over a three-month period. The method known as speleotherapy - is not backed by scientists. But mine clinics across eastern Europe say it works because of health-giving ions emitted by the salt.
