Experts predict increased hurricane activity for next 20 years

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

The devastation left behind by Hurricane Katrina and anticipated from Hurricane Rita has experts taking a closer look at the weather, and in a recent news piece, Mike Deeson of Tampa Bay's 10 News interviewed a number of experts who believe the hurricane trend is only going to get worse over the next 20 years.

When he says "catastrophic," the Southern Region's Chief Meteorologist for the National Weather Service, isn't talking about about Hurricane Rita. Shawn Bennett is talking about what would happen if a Category 4 or 5 hit here. "Catastrophic damage, there is no way to get around it." Forecasters say it is a likely scenario, because we are in a peak hurricane period where the waters of The Gulf of Mexico are warmer. "When you have the warmer sea surface temperatures, it is like putting higher octane gas in your car. Famed Hurricane predictor Dr. William Gray agrees. Gray says the trend could last for another 20 years, and then the seas should cool off. Gray also says it has nothing to do with global warming. Dr. William Gray, Hurricane Predictor: "I promise to find the highest peak in the Rockies and jump off if I'm wrong." Max Mayfield, the head of the National Hurricane Center, testified before Congress with some disturbing news on Tuesday. Max Mayfield, National Hurricane Center: "The greatest potential for the nightmare scenario, for potential lost of life, is in that southeastern Louisiana area." A category 4 or 5 storm hitting here would cause billions of dollars worth of damage to the Tampa Bay area. Katrina has been the country's most expensive Hurricane, followed by Andrew in 1992 and Charley last year. "[If Charley hit] in Tampa Bay, the damage we saw in Punta Gorda and Charlotte County, my estimate is it would be 10 times the number." As bad as a storm like Hurricane Charley could be for Tampa Bay, the area could face a much graver threat. "You could have a storm come up the Central Gulf and then curve west right at us.
