British automaker, government collaborate on hydrogen fuel cell-powered sports car

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

According to The Province, British automaker Morgan is collaborating with the British Government to create a prototype hydrogen fuel cell sports car, based on their existing Aero 8, in the next 2 1/2 years.

Mainstream automakers have been working for years on making hydrogen-powered cars feasible, but it's taken niche British sportscar automaker Morgan -- in partnership with the British government and several science and technology companies -- to propose one that's fun. The LIFEcar, touted by Morgan as the world's first environmentally friendly sports car, will be powered by a system of hydrogen fuel cells and electric motors designed to mimic the performance of the Aero 8 model on which it will be based. The existing Aero 8 has a BMW V8 with more than 300 h.p. and can do a zero-to-100 km/h sprint in about 4.5 seconds. Replicating that performance with fuel cell technology could be Morgan's biggest challenge. Don't expect to see LIFEcar on sale any time soon. The consortium expects to have a running prototype in 2 1/2 years.
