Idemitsu (Japan) to market fuel cells as home power sources in 2006
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
Idemitsu is currently developing an LPG fuel cell which it hopes to market by 2006 as sources of power for your home. The fuel cell is expected to be 30% more efficient with energy and will rent for about ¥60,000 ($575) to ¥100,000 annually. This is just the start. Idemitsu is already scheduled to make trial runs for a kerosene fuel cell in 2006 and expects it to be ready by 2008.
Idemitsu Kosan Co. plans to begin marketing fuels cells as power sources for the home starting in fiscal 2006.
The company will start by marketing fuel cells that run off LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), but in fiscal 2008 it also intends to release fuel cells that run off kerosene.
Household fuel cells can be used to power lighting and appliances, while the heat energy released from the fuel cells can be used to supply hot water.
Idemitsu is presently conducting trial runs of an LPG fuel cell and will search for an electric machinery maker to partner with for development of commercial products.
The specifications are still being worked out, but the plan is to market a fuel cell that is the smallest in the industry.
It will feature an energy efficiency of better than 30 per cent and rent for 60,000 yen (US$575) to 100,000 yen a year.
Idemitsu expects to begin trial runs of a kerosene fuel cell in fiscal 2006.
The company recently developed a device that can extract hydrogen from kerosene with a reformation efficiency of around 80 per cent.
It expects to complete work on a prototype fuel cell that incorporates this kerosene reformer during March.
