Chevron opening hydrogen refueling stations in California and Florida

The Hydrogen Highway initiatives in both California and Florida have received added boosts with Chevron opening hydrogen refueling stations in both states. Instead of bringing in hydrogen, these stations will produce their own hydrogen, allowing them to be more cost-effective. These stations will provide hydrogen to fuel cell vehicles in California and passenger busses with internal combustion engines running on hydrogen in Florida.
" CHINO, Calif., Feb. 18, 2005 -- ChevronTexaco Technology Ventures LLC (CTTV), a subsidiary of ChevronTexaco Corp. (NYSE: CVX), unveiled its first Chevron Hydrogen energy station today at the Hyundai-Kia America Technical Center in California.
The project is part of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) "Controlled Hydrogen Fleet and Infrastructure Demonstration and Validation Program."
The hydrogen energy station located in Chino, California is part of a five-year DOE cost-sharing program designed to demonstrate safe, practical hydrogen technologies in real-world settings.
"The Chevron Hydrogen energy station is a glimpse into the future of distributed energy with hydrogen production on site to fuel a small fleet of Hyundai's Tucson fuel cell demonstration vehicles powered by UTC Fuel Cells.
ChevronTexaco's practical and cost-effective approach to producing hydrogen, where it is consumed, differs from other projects that have fuel delivered to their stations," said Dr. Donald Paul, ChevronTexaco Corporation's vice president and chief technology officer.
" ORLANDO, Feb. 18, 2005 -- Florida's "hydrogen highway" surged forward today as Governor Jeb Bush joined Ford Motor Company Chairman and CEO Bill Ford and executives from ChevronTexaco Corporation and Progress Energy Florida to break ground on the state's first hydrogen energy station.
Slated for completion in 2006, the energy station in bustling metro-Orlando will fuel Ford V-10 E-450 hydrogen-powered shuttle buses transporting visitors at the Orlando International Airport.
"Ford Motor Company is pleased to support Florida's Hydrogen Highway initiative with the production of our hydrogen-powered vehicles," Ford said.
The visionary plan to couple hydrogen buses with a nearby refueling station is a collaboration between the State of Florida, Ford, ChevronTexaco Technology Ventures and Progress Energy.
Worldwide, energy companies, automakers and petroleum companies are investing more than $2 billion annually to grow the hydrogen industry and diversify with new, sustainable sources of energy.
