Zero energy houses don't pollute, are cheap to operate
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
Can houses be built that require net zero energy to operate? Absolutely! And the Dept. of Energy of working on it right now. So far, they've developed a Near-Zero-Energy home, but true Zero-Energy homes aren't far off. How is this energy efficiency accomplished? Smart designs and solar power.
-
Homes constructed by the Department of Energy (DOE) boast of many technological advancements, including almost zero electricity requirements, which actually helping fight pollution.
- The DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Building America Program and TVA claims that an important feature of these homes or businesses employing this innovative technology is that apart from the obvious benefits of practically low or no bills, they reduce the amount of energy required to be generated for running such establishments.
- Jeff Christian from the DOE's Oak Ridge National Laboratory and also the director of ORNL's Building Technology Centre, says that their efforts will help in providing a solution to the pollution problem.
- "We have a roadmap for communities to transform their building industry from part of the problem to part of the solution by leading buildings from energy consumers to net energy producers," he was quoted as saying.
- "The effort must be all-inclusive, so we're not limiting our approach to space heating, cooling, water heating, lighting and major appliances.
- The scientist at DOE have already met with success last month when they constructed a fourth Habitat for Humanity DOE Building America Near-Zero-Energy House in Lenoir City for less than 100,000 dollars.
- Reports indicate that not only were the homes more airtight compared to similar houses constructed with two by four wood frames, also the running cost for the daily average electricity consumption was a mere 82 cents compared to the four or five dollars when constructed with traditional technology.
