by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
French officials have confirmed that initial claims that a member of the island community of Reunion, who had recently visited a bird park in Thailand, are untrue.
The man became ill with flu soon after his return to the French colony, the BBC reported.
Initial tests on Reunion were positive for the H5N1 virus, but a check on the results in Paris ruled out the deadly strain.
Health officials are waiting for results from two other members of his tour group.
The group visited a bird park in Thailand, but Thai officials say they could no have contracted bird flu there.
More than 100 people have been infected with avian influenza and more than 60 have died, most of them in Southeast Asia.
The disease has recently spread into Europe with wild swans in Croatia testing positive and outbreaks in domestic poultry in Romania and Russia.
