Scientists meet to discuss the impact of vitamin D on human health

In the UK, an international meeting of scientists organized by the Health Research Forum will try to disseminate information to audiences about the benefits of sunlight in stimulating the body's production of vitamin D.
A panel of international experts will present the latest findings on the link between insufficient vitamin D and chronic disease and discuss whether a new public health policy is needed for vitamin D and sunlight.
This international meeting of scientists will take place at Portcullis House, House of Commons, at 9.30am on Wednesday 2 November, organised by the Health Research Forum and hosted by Ian Gibson MP.
In the UK, six out of 10 adults of working age are at risk of chronic disease because they do not get enough vitamin D. Insufficient vitamin D is now being recognised as a cause of a number of cancers and other chronic diseases such as multiple sclerosis, diabetes and heart disease.
The action of sunlight on skin is our primary source of vitamin D.
