According to the figures of the World Health Organization, Indian has 40 million diabetics, so the newly launched Dr. Mahendra Narain Diabetes/Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Project has much to do in a country that may soon house the largest population of diabetics in the world.
PATNA: Vidyawati Eye Trust, an NGO working in the field of eye care, launched the Dr Mahendra Narain Diabetes/Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Project, here on Sunday.
The project has been launched in the memory of the eminent physician, the late Dr Mahendra Narain.
Dr Narain had always worked to create awareness among the masses about the health hazards related to diabetes and methods of diabetic management.
The trust, under the project, also held a camp with the help of funds donated by family and friends.
Many people above 35 years of age underwent free diabetes tests.
Those found to be diabetic, also had an eye check-up for diabetic retinopathy.
"According to reports published by the WHO, India with a population of nearly 40 million diabetics, is fast emerging as the country with maximum number of diabetic cases," said managing trustee V N Prasad.
