by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

Hygiene and a cautious diet are two ways to avoid infection during a cholera outbreak.

Cholera is a serious infection which results in frequent passing of loose and watery stools that may cause collapse and death if not treated early. The stools look like rice water.Hence, the stools are described as "rice water" stools. --- Eating foods contaminated with the cholera germs.E.g. raw unwashed fruits, cold cooked foods exposed to filth. --- Drinking cholera contaminated water or drinks bought from hawkers, such as exposed fruit drinks, and milk products. --- Not washing hands after using toilet facilities and before preparing foods or before eating. --- Shaking hands with someone whose hands are contaminated (such as during gatherings). How to avoid the disease during outbreaks --- All fruits and vegetables should be properly washed with clean water before eating. --- As much as possible avoid cold foods such as milk, iced kenkey, iced water and ice cream bought from hawkers and which are likely to spread the cholera germ. --- Wash hands before cooking, eating and after using the toilet. ---Do not eat uncovered cooked foods bought from vendors. ---Report all cases of profuse diarrhoea to the nearest clinic. ---To ask your parents to give you O.R.S. when you have diarrhoea. It is good for treating cholera. ---Cholera immunisation does not prevent you from getting the disease.
