Lagos health authorities emphasize nutrition to school children

Mr. Klaus Wachsmuth, CEO of Nestle Nigeria, and Lagos State commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Joke Adefulire, spoke to a secondary schools audience about the importance of childhood nutrition in establishing the template for a healthy adult lifestyle.
Lagos State commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Joke Adefulire, has emphasised the need for proper nutrition for children in order to give them social and mental balance.
The commissioner stated this at the grand finale of this year's edition of the Nestle Nutritional Secondary Schools Competition with the theme Wellness: The Reward for Good Nutrition.
She explained that proper nutrition was required for growth and good health and to prepare the children for future challenges as tomorrow's leaders.
She called on Nestle Nigeria Plc, organisers of the championship to organise programmes for women since they are the ones responsible for running the homes.
Also present at the event was the managing-director and Chief executive, Nestle Nigeria, Mr. Klaus Wachsmuth.
In his speech, Mr. Wachsmuth said, "well-being cannot exist without wellness.
Wellness is the platform on which well-being sits."
He described wellness as a condition of enhanced health focused on physicality, maintained by good diet, exercise and life habits, while explaining that wellness is a state of being healthy and happy, contentment, a feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment.
On the benefits of healthy lifestyle, he said, "To be well, we must learn to balance physical fitness, stress, work, relationships, medication, and nutrition."
The event witnessed the award of prices in the oral presentation and art competition categories, for best schools and teachers.
In the oral presentation, St. Louis Secondary School Kano emerged tops and carted away a price of a desktop photocopies, plus a seventy thousand naira education grant.
