Indiana addresses the increase of eye diseases among its population
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
Dr. Robert Yee, chairman of the I.U. School of Ophthalmology, links the high rate of eye disease in Indiana to an older population and the high rates of smoking and obesity.
Indiana ranks among the top states for eye disease.
Several groups are trying to change that through education.
An aging population and the fact that Indiana has high obesity and smoking rates are the main reasons for eye disease here, according to the chairman of the I.U. School of Ophthalmology, Dr. Robert Yee.
"Glaucoma, diabetes, and age-related macular degeneration are all increasing exponentially," says Dr. Yee.
He says eye disease is one of the most preventable medical conditions if it is detected early, and to do that, people have to see an eye doctor.
