British University offers degrees in naturopathic medicine
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
Naturopathic medicine was recently granted a degree program at the University of Bridgeport in the UK.
His goal is to establish a wellness clinic with a team of alternative health providers with degrees in chiropractic, acupuncture, nutrition and naturopathic medicine.
The College of Chiropractic offers a four-year graduate school degree and has 227 students; the Acupuncture Institute offers a three-year master's degree and has 37 students; the Nutrition Institute has a 31-credit master's degree program taught on weekends with 225 students; the College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM) has 127 students enrolled in the program.
"Naturopathic" means assisting the body's natural process to work against disease.
Guru Sandesh Singh Khalsa, ND, came from a similar college in Seattle a year ago to become the CNM dean at UB.
The premise of conventional medicine, Khalsa said, is treatment of acute trauma and life-threatening situations.
Khalsa said this means people want doctors to do something or give them something that will cure them.
Ciolino works there as part of his education.
At the time, medical reformers were convinced there were too many medical schools of low quality producing an over abundance of doctors.
Abraham Flexner, a John Hopkins University graduate and educator, then studied the 155 medical schools in the United States and Canada with the approval of the American Medical Association (AMA).
According to ND, human health is hurt when practitioners do not use all the wisdom accumulated about health from the past.
George L. Gunther, 86, of Stratford is the region's most prominent naturopathic doctor.
"My father found out from our neighbors on lower Pembroke Street about a Dr. Francis in Norwalk, who was a chiropractor," Gunther recalled.
Gunther said naturopathic doctors must master the basic medical science all medical doctors must study, such as anatomy, physiology, pathology, diagnosis, hygiene and sanitation.
