E.coli bug found in 115 Welsh school children
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
E. coli bacteria has made 115 Welsh children sick across 35 schools, and The Daily Mail reports that three of these students are seriously ill with kidney failure after being exposed to the bacteria by tainted meat, investigators surmise.
He joins Garyn Price, nine, who was also airlifted and Caitlin Bray, three, who remains in a 'very poorly' condition.
"It's been absolutely terrible," Caitlin's grandmother Lynne Bray, 58, said.
Caitlin is a little better, but she's still very ill."
The bug has now been found in 32 schools across South Wales since the first cases came to light two weeks ago.
A number of the children affected have been treated in hospital and some remain very ill.
The bug is highly contagious, causes vomiting and diarrhoea, and can prove fatal.
This is the worst outbreak the UK has ever suffered.
Investigations into the source of the outbreak - which has affected the Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil, Caerphilly and Bridgend local authority areas - has concentrated on meat suppliers John Tudor and Sons of Bridgend.
The company supplies cooked meat products to schools across the affected area as well as consumer outlets.
It agreed to withdraw its cooked meats from sale last Monday and has now been ordered to stop trading following an Environmental Health investigation.
An Outbreak Control Team has been searching for the source of the infection all week and strict controls have been put in place to clampdown on the spread of the bug.
Children's play areas, such as sand pits, have been ruled off limits, as has playing with water and plasticine, all because they are potential sources of infection.
Stringent hygiene procedures have also been put in place in schools to stop the bug spreading from person to person.
A Food Standards Agency (FSA) expert said: "Any establishment or caterer identifying that they have such cooked meats from John Tudor and Son is advised to contact their local authority for removal of this product."
