Storing food in crystal containers may pose health risk
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
Storing food or drinks in lead crystal containers may pose a health risk, since lead may be absorbed into the food, and the National Safety Council advises people not to drink from lead crystal glasses daily, especially if they are pregnant, and not to feed infants or children from lead crystal containers.
According to the National Safety Council, ordinary glassware does not contain lead, but lead is used in the more expensive lead crystal.
Do not store liquids in lead crystal glasses or bottles.
Do not drink from lead crystal on a daily basis, especially if you are pregnant.
Do not feed an infant or child from a lead crystal baby bottle or cup.
The information from NSC did not specifically mention fruit stored in lead crystal, but to be absolutely safe, I would not do it.
Other food should not be stored in these types of containers either.
I am looking at a jar of Jif creamy peanut butter.
The label says it contains less than 2 percent partially hydrogenated vegetable oil (soybean) and fully hydrogenated vegetable oil (rapeseed and soybean).
The nutrition facts show 0 grams trans fat.
If partially hydrogenated oils contain trans fat, why does it claim 0 grams trans fat?
You almost need a degree in food science to read food labels anymore.
You are correct, trans fat is formed when liquid oil is partially hydrogenated.
The peanut butter in question says 0 grams trans fat because a serving of peanut butter (2 tablespoons) has less than .5 grams of trans fat.
Due to the rounding on its food label, the zero isn't really zero.
But less than a half gram of fat is pretty small, so there is no need to worry.
