Vets now offer acupuncture for your pets
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
A growing number of veterinarians are using acupuncture to treat ailments like arthritis and back problems in dogs when drugs or surgery fail.
When Abha Manek took Giles -- her 11-year-old arthritic Labrador to the vet, she wasn't prepared for what he suggested to help ease Giles' old age malady -- acupuncture!
An increasing number of vets who are trained in acupuncture are using this popular alternate treatment to treat a variety of canine problems.
And according to vets, the most common use for acupuncture in dogs is to treat back problems which have not responded to drugs or surgery.
One such vet who has been practising canine acupuncture for the past two years is Dr Priya Dahanukar who is also a member of the NGO 'PALS' which provides free acupuncture for stray dogs.
"Acupuncture assists the body to heal itself by affecting certain physiological changes by stimulating certain special points with needles.
I mostly treat dogs with muscular-skeletal problems like hip dysplasia, but I do treat the occasional cases dealing with chronic renal failure by using a combination of acupuncture, electro acupuncture and certain herbal medicines," says Dr Dahanukar, who feels that there is not enough awareness among pet owners about such alternate therapies.
