Two cattlemen fined for allowing cows to starve

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

Queensland, Australia herd managers Christopher Edmund Todd and Trevor Patrick Gleeson have been fined $6,000 (about $4,630 USD) for allowing 110 heads of cattle to starve nearly to death, the Japan Herald reports.

The figure says it all, and so do the little red and blue dots on the map -- dengue fever is on the rise in the island state and the authorities are struggling to contain its outbreak, which is to say the least, uncharacteristic of a health conscious nation like Singapore. Yet the republic -- known for its cleanliness and high standards of health practices -- is battling a disease that has sent hospitals crowded with victims since the past weeks. Heavy concentration of people living closely together in highrise flats could be one of the reasons, he said. "If it's just one breeding site that is overlooked, the mosquitoes could infect everyone straight up from just that small spot". Other possibilities are that immunity to the disease was low among children here, and that the Aedes mosquitos, the dengue virus carrier, proved to be versatile in urban environments, the paper reported. In 2005, the number of dengue fever cases has increased since May, following a decline from January to April, the ministry said in its website. In the first half of the year, a weekly average of 204 dengue cases were reported. While the authorities are grappling with the issues, and with the number rising, the government formed an inter-ministerial committee headed by Minister for Environment and Water Resources Yaacob Ibrahim to tackle the problem. The National Environment Agency had started collecting blood samples from one of the areas affected by the disease to determine, among other things, the actual number of dengue cases in the area and the type of infections. Fogging not only being intensified around the affected areas, the authorities were also gathering information on how best they could apply the methods to ensure its effectiveness in killing the target.
