People over 50 should take colon cancer precautions

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

People over age 50 have an increased risk of colon cancer but some ways to reduce that risk include: Eat a low-fat diet rich in fruits, vegetables and calcium-rich food; don't smoke; supplement with calcium, vitamin D and folic acid; drink little or no alcohol and get tested if you are over 50 or have high risk factors for colon cancer.

National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month is a good time to start reducing your risk. If you are age 50 or at high risk, make an appointment for colonoscopy. Detected early, polyps can be removed before they become cancerous. * Get physically active or stay active. * Eat a low-fat diet, high in vegetables and fruits. Although eating fruits and vegetables may not prevent colorectal cancer, their nutrients, fiber and phytonutrients may help reduce the chances. * Enjoy more milk and other calcium-rich foods. Consuming enough calcium is linked to colon cancer protection. * drink alcohol only in moderation, if at all.
