Reiki can be effective for pain management

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

An ancient form of Japanese holistic medicine called reiki can relieve some chronic pain.

In 1999, when Vera Tumio's father was paralyzed by a staph infection, "he was in terrible pain and the doctors told him he would never walk again." As his primary caregiver, Tumio said she looked for any possible way to ease his pain. When her niece mentioned a workshop in Reiki (pronounced ray-key) --- a hands-on Japanese holistic technique to reduce stress and pain, and thus accelerate healing and wellness --- she decided to attend. "After experiencing Reiki myself, I received a clarity, courage and strength that was just amazing," said Tumio. "My father started walking again after that and the doctors were just stunned. That was my first experience with the power of Reiki. A diverse group of independent practitioners --- medical doctors, massage therapists, nutritional counselors, chiropractors, psychologists and acupuncturists --- are located in one space to help clients "manage the physical, emotional and spiritual issues that confront them." Treating all three is what holistic health is about. The moment you walk into the lofty peaceful space that is the Healing Arts Community, you feel a sense of relaxation. This Sunday --- and the second Sunday of every month at 7 p.m. --- Dave Wonsey, a percussionist for Ridgefield Symphony and a teacher at Fordham University, will lead a drumming session.. That same night at 8, there will be a session of "Reel Reflections -- Cinema with Spirit," a monthly movie night where participants watch the film and engage in discussion afterward.
