Owning pets reduces stress levels, study finds

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

A study by the Mental Health Foundation has shown that talking to pets can reduce a person's stress level.

Talking about your problems has not only been scientifically proven to relieve stress, but it's also the nation's favourite blues beating tactic, according to a survey conducted last year by the Mental Health Foundation. But scientists in America have found if you really want to reduce stress, you're better off talking to a pet than a person. A study at the University of New York found people who performed difficult tasks while a pet was in the room had lower stress levels than when the animal was taken away. Women who argue are four times less likely to suffer from heart disease than women who keep quiet, according to research in America. Catching sight of the sea at least once a day can reduce stress according to a survey released last month. Contact with nature such as parks, the smell of cut grass and birds singing also helps. Happiness leads to lower stress levels according to scientists at University College London, who reported happy people are better at dealing with stressful situations.
