How to clear your inbox of spam forever

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

Follow these steps to rid yourself of spam and scammers.

Tired of fielding annoying phone calls and mailings from telemarketers, direct-mailers and others? Worried about what you can do to protect your financial information and prevent identity theft? Check out this list of links and information on some of the more popular and effective ways you can curtail unwanted calls and junk mail, while protecting your financial privacy. 1Ban telemarketing calls: Register your home and cell phone numbers with the National Do Not Call Registry to cut down on telemarketing calls. This is for consumers only, not businesses. If you register online, the Federal Trade Commission will send you an e-mail message with a link in it. 2Ban pre-approved credit offers: Stop the credit bureaus -- Experian, TransUnion, Innovis and Equifax -- from selling your name to mailing lists. Go to the Web site -- www.optoutprescreen.com -- or call (888) 5-OPTOUT (888-567-8688). The catch is that only DMA members must abide by the pledge to take your name off their lists. An annoying aspect is that you can opt out by mail for free, but opting out online -- by visiting http://www.dmaconsumers.org -- will cost you $5. 4Block e-mail spam: If you've got spam, read advice from the Federal Trade commission at www.ftc.gov/spam for reducing the spam that clogs your e-mail account. 5Lock up your banking: The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act lets you tell your financial institution not to share your personal information with third parties. The bank can still share plenty of your information with its affiliates that, these days, can be dozens of companies. And it can even share information with third parties if there's a marketing agreement in place between the two companies. Many banks, brokerages and insurance companies also allow you to opt out by phone, or you can call them and ask that an opt-out form be mailed to you.
