Simple ways to get yourself motivated for morning exercise

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

By following certain steps, you'll be certain to wake up early and motivate yourself to exercise, RedNova.com reports.

can't get to the gym after work so I try to exercise in the morning. But when my alarm clock buzzes at 5,1 just can't wake up. How can I become an early-bird exerciser? A First off, don't aim for daily pre-dawn workouts right off the bat, says certified Los Angeles trainer Ken Alan, a spokesman for the American Council on Exercise. In a few weeks, add your third morning, and so on, until you've reached four or five days. "By gradually adopting the new routine over a two- month period, your body rhythms are allowed time to adjust," Alan says. Putting your bedroom lights on timers so it's bright when you awake and setting your alarm to up-tempo, lively music will help convince your body and mind it's time to rise. Also, try to find a friend who will commit to regularly exchanging wake-up calls (and who may even become your gym buddy). On your way out the door, Alan suggests marking an "X" on your calendar. "It's better to find ways to incorporate more exercise into your day than to be endlessly fighting your body's time clock," Alan says. What causes these "side stitches" and how can I control them? A "Little is known about why these cramps occur," says Beth Shubin Stein, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon at the Women's Sports Medicine Center at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Cramps may be caused by dehydration, an electrolyte imbalance, running after a meal or failing to warm up, she says. To remedy them, change your body position by temporarily switching from running to walking. Another trick is to massage the afflicted area. "This helps the muscle that has seized up to relax," Shubin Stein says.
