Healing in children can be achieved through medical massage therapy

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

Medical massage therapy on children can help them heal from strokes and other maladies.

Bruck is a medical massage therapist, and he is testing the limits of his field by focusing on pediatric treatment. Getting along with his youthful clients is only the smallest of Bruck's challenges. Working on children - especially those with communication problems - is difficult because they cannot talk about their woes like adults can. And pediatric massage must be done cautiously because children's bones and muscles are still developing. Bruck is teaming with Pediatric Therapy Associates in Windsor Township and with a student researcher to study the effect of his work on autistic children. The results, he hopes, will confirm that kids with deep medical problems can get better under the pressure of his hands. Laura Bartlett saw it happen recently when her son Samuel, 7, opened a refrigerator door with his right hand. Samuel has had limited use of his right hand and arm since suffering a stroke at 6 months old. Bruck, owner of Relaxation & Retreat Massages of York, in Springettsbury Township, is a former volunteer firefighter with the forearms of Popeye and the patience of a pastor. Bruck manages to keep Samuel perfectly quiet during massage sessions, even though they happen in a room with a trampoline, Bartlett said. "Kevin has a really soothing way about him," she said. To avoid trouble, he has guardians sign extensive consent forms before beginning massages. Pomeroy was suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome, a wrist ailment, and had to give up her own massage business around the same time Bruck entered the field in 2002. It's a background that allows Bruck to navigate the most sensitive of assignments without trepidation. When he first began thinking about treating kids, Bruck researched pediatric massage and found hardly anything had been written about it.
