How to stay cool with foods

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

Naturopathic doctors recommend eating foods that will make you perspire in the hot summer months. Some good choices are foods containing pepper and ginger.

If you just can't stand the heat, you may want to try a different approach. Instead of eating cool foods why not eat something that can keep you cool. For many, ice cream is the flavor of the day. Father Steve Bzdyra says,"Eat a lot more ice cream. It's the best way to cool off." There's nothing wrong with ice cream, but Naturopathic Doctor Jonathan Goodman recommends spicing up your diet to beat the heat. Dr. Goodman says, "People should be eating foods that keep them cool. Foods that help their body release heat or in other words perspire." Foods, Dr. Goodman says, that other people eat who live in hot climates. Goodman says,"Peppermint is a really nice thing to eat. Maybe a little bit of hot pepper in your food. Helps your body release that heat and stay cool." Did he say ginger, peppermint and hot pepper? "They're called diaphoretic, which is a fancy word for substances, herbs that help your body release heat. It opens up your pores and improves your circulation and that's how your body regulates its own temperatures." And like everything else, moderation is key. "I would just put a couple slices of ginger on your food. I'd drink some peppermint tea, put a little sprinkle of hot pepper onto your food." Still, there's nothing like a scoop of ice cream on a hot summer day. When humidity is high, Dr. Goodman says you also need to eat a lot of fruits, drink enough water and stay indoors as much as possible.
