Clean energy prospects bloom bright
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
If the world embraced cleaner energy prospects, less fossil fuels would be needed, leading to decreased developments of asthma and other illnesses.
Summer after summer, it seems like the same story: The temperature tops 100 degrees for days in a row, so we crank up our air conditioners and watch our utility bills skyrocket while unprecedented growth raises questions if there will be enough energy to meet our needs.
Although we can't dramatically alter the weather, we can significantly reduce our electricity use and bills by employing energy efficiency.
While these are all very important and worthwhile, another easy way to save money and energy is through purchasing ENERGY STAR qualified products and appliances.
Products that have earned the ENERGY STAR meet strict energy efficiency criteria set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.
Janet Napolitano recently declared July 2005 ENERGY STAR Month in Arizona.
Across the nation in 2004, Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved enough energy to power 24 million homes and avoid greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 20 million cars - all while saving $10 billion.
Using energy efficiently means less is generated by power plants, decreasing the amount of fossil fuels burned, which results in cleaner air and reduced adverse public health impacts such as asthma and other respiratory illnesses.
Investing in renewable energy in Arizona, such as solar and wind power, will lead to jobs and increased economic input, notes the Arizona PIRG Education Fund's report, "Renewing Arizona's Economy: The Clean Energy Path to Jobs and Economic Growth."
By promoting energy efficiency and policies to grow Arizona's use of solar, wind, clean biomass and geothermal energy to power our homes and businesses, we will move down a clean energy path that will move us away from foreign sources of energy.
