Chocolate fights disease
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
Scientists have recently found that not only does chocolate taste good, it can also fight diseases like diabetes, strokes and dementia.
IT sounds like a chocaholic's dream come true - cocoa not only fights heart disease but could help prevent diabetes, strokes and dementia.
Scientists found chemicals in cocoa that relax blood vessels, improve circulation and have the same blood-thinning effect as aspirin.
They have also found a way of copying the chemicals, called flavanols, to use then in medicine to treat and prevent disease.
The research revealed flavanols increase blood flow to the brain, paving the way for possible treatment for strokes and dementia.
They can also boost circulation in diabetics with complications related to restricted blood flow.
Dr Norm Hollenberg, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, said: 'This is a scientific breakthrough that could well lead to a medical breakthrough.'
Confectionery firm Mars, who led the research, have patented the method for copying flavanols.
