Skip the samples at makeup counters
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
Researchers have released a study that shows that cosmetic samples at cosmetic counters in departments store are riddled with bacteria and germs.
It's enough to make your skin crawl.
For the two years that researchers took samples from department-store makeup counters, swabs from skin, eye and lip products were significantly contaminated with staph aureus, bacteria that can cause conjunctivitis and skin infections, according to a study from Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J.
Dr. Elizabeth Brooks, associate premedical adviser of biological sciences, found that makeup samples taken during the two-year span showed 67 percent to 100 percent of the products were contaminated.
"It can become problematic if it is introduced to the eyes, nose or mucous membranes and can lead to bacterial conjunctivitis," Brooks says.
"It's certainly not a risk we should be taking for makeup."
# Hit the makeup counter on weekdays, when crowds are sparse.
# Cleanse your face soon after leaving the store.
# Look for clinicians who dip samples and applicators in alcohol between customers, or ones who will open an individual color tester in front of you.
