Happiness is achieved by personal exploration, editor says

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

Happiness is not achieved by amassing material possessions, but by looking inwards to find inner peace, says Harriet Cole, Salt Lake Tribune editor.

I am writing in response to Twyla who has everything but doesn't feel happy. Her story reminds me of the quote, "Most men live lives of quiet desperation.'' I, too, felt this emptiness and suffered with depression. It was the beginning of spirituality in my life that was meaningful and personal; I found that service to others in some form brought my own happiness. There are many paths to choose from and I believe that empty feelings may be a signal that we need to find a way to bring real meaning into our lives. Dear Marsha: Yes, we do live in a materialistic world, one that encourages us to believe that if we own one more possession or have a particular type of job, friends or home, we can then be happy. You found a way to unlock the treasures of your heart through a 12-step program. Perhaps one of the greatest contributions to contemporary culture came from Bill Wilson, who founded Alcoholics Anonymous, which spawned many programs, including Emotions Anonymous. An overarching point of these programs is that people join together in common fellowship to accept their faults and rise above their challenges. Miracles happen in these programs, supported largely by spiritual practice. It is possible to live with joy and contentment. Since that is so, why settle for less? Dear Harriette: About six months ago I left my wife and my home because I believed it was the best thing for me. Now I don't know how to repair the mess I've made. Dear Andrew: Have you tried to reconcile with her? Rebuilding trust can be a steep, uphill climb, so you both must be committed to the journey.
