Apple finally updates iBook line

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

Apple Computer Inc. today unwrapped updated iBooks that sport faster G4 processors, double the standard memory, a new video graphics card and a scrolling trackpad.

Apple finally announced some overdue upgrades to its iBook line and Mac mini line, just in time for back-to-school. Apple fans are pleased, though PC fans are wondering: What took them so long? The upgrade to the iBook was announced, and surprisingly, it's still not widescreen, which many of us had anticipated. Standard memory size has been increased to 512MB RAM (up from 256MB) and the hard drive is now 40GB, configurable up to 100GB for an extra $200. The larger, 14-inch iBook also gets a processor bump to 1.42 GHz, and a larger standard 60GB hard drive, upgradeable to 100GB for $150. On both laptops, the graphics gets a boost with the ATI Mobility Radeon 9550. ADVERTISEMENT Like the Powerbooks, both the 12-inch and 14-inch iBook kicks Bluetooth up a notch with Enhanced Data Rate (EDR). Other hardware improvements include the touchpad, which now offers scrolling features. Also available now is the updated Mac mini desktop computer. Like the previous Mac mini, the newest Mac mini comes without monitor, keyboard, and mouse, but now there are three price points (up from two): $499, $599, and $699. The $499 Mac mini has a 1.25 GHz G4 processor, 40GB hard drive, and DVD/CD-RW combo drive: features similar to the first generation Mac mini. The $599 Mac mini bumps the hard drive up to 80GB, the G4 up to 1.42 GHz, and now includes built-in AirPort Extreme (802.11g) wireless and Bluetooth connectivity (an improvement over the last generation 1.42 GHz Mac mini). All three Mac minis retain the 32MB ATI Radeon 9200 graphics found on the first generation Mac minis, but all three now come with 512MB of system memory (up from 256MB) and Mac Os X 10.4 Tiger.
