LCD with switchable viewing angle adds extra level of privacy to gadgets

A new liquid crystal display (LCD) that can be changed from a wide viewing angle to a narrow viewing angle with the flick of a switch means that people reading personal information from a cell phone or laptop display can do so without a bystander getting an eyeful, Electronics Talk reports.
This will allow people to view e-mail and other private information on portable devices such as mobile phones and notebook PCs with peace of mind without having to worry about others in the vicinity snooping to peek at what is being displayed on the LCD screen.
Sharp will begin mass production of this display beginning in July 2005.
