The latest in home security technology is the ability to enclose yourself in your bedroom, bathroom and closet in steel -- a feature that provides safety and security against burglars or natural calamities like fires and hurricanes. A complete system that comes with a remote control is priced at $130,000.

If you've seen the movie "Panic Room," imagine having that kind of safe haven in your own home. A company in Rayne is launching the first of its kind home security system in the world. It shuts out intruders and protects against severe weather. The new technology is being installed in Lafayette homes, including one on tour this weekend at the Acadian Homebuilder's Association 2005 Parade of Homes. With a remote control in hand, safety takes on a whole new meaning for homeowner Beverly Hargett. It's called hidden fortress and in a River Ranch home on the parade of homes tour the master bedroom, bathroom and closet are enclosed in steel. With the click of a button, in two seconds homeowners get instant security from fire, hurricanes, tornado, and burglars. "For a hurricane we don't have to leave which is awesome because we always have to find some place to run," Hargett says. Home and security technologies is the brain behind the technology. It's something Hargett and her husband are considering. as they decide what features to add to their new home. "It's your home..it's your haven, you want it safe," she says.
