New Yahoo search engine dives into "hidden" internet content

The San Jose Business Journal has an article about Yahoo's "Search Subscriptions" site, which will allow users to retrieve search results from subscription and other paid sites that most engines skip.
Internet portal Yahoo Inc. is launching a new search engine that it says prowls the "deep Web" looking for information.
The Yahoo Search Subscriptions enables users to search multiple online subscription content sources and the Web from a single search box, the company says.
Subscription content includes for-pay news and reference Web sites in what's called the "deep Web" which includes millions of access-restricted Web sites containing content that search engines typically cannot access.
The service is initially available in the U.S. and the UK.
Initial content is provided by ConsumerReports.org, The Wall Street Journal Online, TheStreet.com (NASDAQ: TSCM), The New England Journal of Medicine, IEEE and Forrester Research Inc. (NASDAQ: FORR), along with subscription content from Financial Times.
"We are in the very early stages of providing our users with access to the deep Web through Yahoo Search Subscriptions and over the coming months we plan to expand this program to further accommodate our users' wide range of interests," says Eckart Walther, vice president, product management at Yahoo (NASDAQ: YHOO) of Sunnyvale, in a written statement.
"For the first time, publishers can bring content to their subscribers on a broad scale through a leading search engine."
