Ludhiana Newsline reports that Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) is overcoming its reputation as a "bogus" medical practice, as more and more people are turning to it when traditional (allopathic) medicine's side effects become too much.
TIRED of allopathy and its side-effects, city folks are resorting to alternative medicine, like acupuncture, Kerala massage therapy and ayurveda.
The sick with chronic problems claim that after failing to get relief from allopathy they have truned to alternate medicine and have been relived of their problems.
Gursharan Kaur, a housewife, who is suffering from cervical problem and is a regular at Kerala Massage Therapy Centre on Malhar Road, says, ''I was having this problem for the last three years and have tried all allopathic doctors of the city but found no relief.
Here I am not taking medicine and they are treating me with massages.
Advertisement Manish Dutt, Regional Head of the centre, says, ''Basically, we use massages while dealing with even chronic diseases.''
Another ray of hope for those who are tired of medicine is acupuncture therapy.
Parveen Sharma, who is suffering from migrain, says, ''I have taken 10 sittings and am feeling better.''
Dr Inderjit Singh who owns the Dr Kotle Acupuncture Hospital, explains, ''People have started coming here as the treatment is permanent; we just increase the resistance of the body.
Another treatment which the city residents are opting is ayurveda treatment.
''Though our ancestors used to believe in herbs and ayurveda, with modernisation we started forgetting our culture and today when the side-effects of allopathic medicine are giving sleepless nights to health-conscious people, they have taken a turn towards ayurveda once again,'' says Dr Sunit Arora.
