Hypnotherapist talks about healing

Certified hypnotherapist Don Rice talks about using hypnosis to improve relationships during a workshop called Heal Any Relationship - With Hypnotherapy.

In the 20-plus years that he has worked as a certified hypnotherapist, Don Rice said, he has never seen a problem that could not be improved through hypnosis. On Thursday, Rice will talk about using hypnosis to improve relationships during a workshop called Heal Any Relationship - With Hypnotherapy at the Foothills Branch Library in Glendale. "I'll be covering exactly what relationships are, and identifying relationships," said Rice, who has clinics in Ahwatukee and Scottsdale. "The only thing a proper hypnotist does is work with emotions. If we could resolve things logically, we could resolve them. By focusing on changing the way we react toward others and altering our emotions, Rice said, our relationships can quickly begin to improve. Rice said his demonstration will not include the stereotypical pocket watch, waving his hands in front of anyone's face or making people cluck like chickens. "Hypnosis is one of the most powerful things in the world, and it's almost one of the most boring," he said. He uses only his voice to hypnotize his clients and said he never asks anyone to do anything that would embarrass them. Rice said that no matter what the issue is, most of his clients get better after one session; follow-up sessions, he said, can often be conducted by phone. "It's all real simple; we make it complicated in life." Rice will also explain some basics of hypnosis during the workshop, like how it changes our brain patterns and how we often put ourselves into a similar altered state of consciousness, such as when we are focusing on our driving so much that we miss an exit. "I will teach them to reduce their stress," he said.
