Breast cancer is a danger to all women, regardless of age, warns industry

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

Even though breast cancer is the number one killer of women aged 40 to 55, it can attack women at any age; The Citizen has published an in-depth article on the subject to better educate women about this deadly affliction.

Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women between the ages of 40 and 55, yet it can strike any woman, regardless of age. Twice annually, the Cayuga County Healthy Men and Women Partnership joins Wellspring Breast Center, a mobile mammography program from Community General Hospital in Syracuse, to bring mammogram examinations to women in the outskirts of Cayuga County. Early detection remains the strongest defense against this life-threatening disease, with more than 2 million survivors in the United States. "Medicine is so advanced today," said Julie Delaney, case manager for the Cayuga County Healthy Men and Women Partnership. A mammogram examination is a series of X-rays taken at different angles of the breast. It is recommended that women over the age of 40, be screened annually through mammogram and clinical breast exams. Having a close family member who has been diagnosed with breast cancer puts you in a high-risk group. For women between the ages of 20 and 40, monthly self-examinations and annual clinical breast exams are recommended. Having little or no insurance is the main reason women over the age of 40 do not receive annual mammograms; the second is bruising or the fear of pain. Cayuga County Healthy Men and Women Partnership, a division of the Cayuga County Health and Human Services Department, is one of the community programs that offers these types of examinations for people who do not carry proper health insurance. Working closely with area physicians, the program ensures that county residents receive the proper clinical care that they need, regardless of age. Sharon Hilliard of Moravia has received annual mammograms through Cayuga County Healthy Men and Women Partnership for approximately five years.
