Rumsfeld ready to bomb Iraq the day after 9/11; even though they are not
at all related
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld wanted to start bombing Iraq just
one day after the 9/11 terror attacks, says a new book by Richard
Clarke, a former Bush Administration senior coordinator. It's not
surprising, of course: the Bush Administration clearly saw the 9/11
attacks as an "opportunity" to sell America on a military invasion of
Iraq that had been planned for years. All the Bush Administration had to
do, it seemed, was somehow link 9/11 with Iraq (the two actually have
nothing to do with each other). This association was made in the
minds of the American public with the help of the mainstream media: most
notably Fox News, which seemingly served as the official White House
propaganda broadcast headquarters. Before long, the American public was
believing that Saddam Hussein had planned the 9/11 terrorist attacks,
and that made the Iraq invasion much easier to swallow.
A great
number of related details are spelled out in Richard Clarke's book,
which I highly recommend. The bottom line, though, is that it's very
difficult for any intelligent, thinking person to buy into the Bush
Administration's explanation for why we invaded Iraq. In fact, the real
answer is obvious to folks with brains: oil.
In a forthcoming book, Richard Clarke, the White House
counterterrorism coordinator at the time, recounts details of a meeting
the day after the terrorist attacks during which top officials
considered the U.S. response.
"Rumsfeld was saying we needed to bomb Iraq," Mr. Clarke said.
There's absolutely no evidence that Iraq was supporting al-Qaeda."
The Associated Press first reported in June 2002 that Mr. Bush's
national security leadership met formally nearly 100 times in the months
prior to the Sept. 11 attacks, yet terrorism was the topic during only
two of those sessions.
The last of those two meetings occurred on Sept. 4 as the security
council put finishing touches on a proposed national security policy
review for the president.
