Red Meat Linked To Bowel Cancer (press release)

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

The European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition says eating two or more portions of red meat a day increases the risk of bowel cancer.

The study is the strongest evidence yet that meat has an influence on the disease, the Times of London reported.

Eating two or more portions, or more than 16 grams, of beef, lamb, pork or veal increases the risk of developing bowel cancer by 30 percent than those who eat these kinds of meat only once a week, the study said. A single large steak would be about 210 grams.

A diet low in fiber also increases the risk. Processed meat includes sausages and hamburgers.

The study said fish is protective, giving a reduction in risk of a third for those who eat fish every other day.

The European institute was set up 10 years ago to investigate the dietary habits throughout Europe.
