Spirit rover flys millions of miles to get stuck by a 5-inch airbag

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

NASA will overcome this issue, of course, but they're handling it with
extreme caution. It cost a lot of money (and no small investment in
pride and ego, either) to get the Spirit rover onto Mars, and they're
not taking any chances with the craft. Amazingly, with all the news and
headlines about the Mars rover, it hasn't even starting moving yet.
Imagine how exciting the researchers will be when Spirit starts rolling!
Kudos to NASA for getting a rover to Mars in one piece, anyway. It's no
small feat.

The engineers and scientists for NASA's Spirit are eager to get the rover off its lander and out exploring the terrain that Spirit's pictures are revealing, but caution comes first. An added "lift and tuck" to get deflated airbag material out of the way extends the number of activities Spirit needs to finish before it can get its wheels onto martian ground. Now, positive health reports are in for all of Spirit's science instruments. Besides looking forward to exploring away from the lander, the rover teams are looking forward to getting Spirit's twin Mars Exploration Rover, Opportunity, safely landed on Mars.
