Bush announces new vision for landing Americans on Mars
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
It looks as though Bush is going to lay out a vision of sending
Americans to Mars. The exploration of space offers tremendous benefits
to the people of planet Earth by acquiring new knowledge, expanding our
vision, and understanding more about who we are and where we came from.
The benefits have been known for a long time. So why does Bush choose
this moment to announce plans to send Americans to Mars? It's election
time, folks, and announcing a mission to Mars makes for good sound
bites, regardless of whether such a mission actually materializes.
Even in the best case scenario, however, sending Americans to Mars won't
happen any time soon. NASA doesn't have the budget or the technology to
complete such a mission in this decade, probably. And how are we going
to scrape up the funds to boost NASA's budget when our government is
already bankrupt from the "drunken sailor" federal spending of both
Republicans and Democrats under the Bush Administration?
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush will announce plans next week to send
Americans to Mars and establish a permanent human presence on the moon,
senior administration officials said Thursday night.
Bush won't propose sending Americans to Mars anytime soon; rather, he
envisions preparing for the mission more than a decade from now, one
official said.
Earlier, White House spokesman Scott McClellan told reporters
traveling with Bush in Florida that the president would make an
announcement about space next week, but he declined to give details.
It was the Columbia tragedy that helped force a discussion of where
NASA should venture beyond the space shuttle and international space
station.
