Boston woman steals cancer patients' identities

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

Last week a Boston woman was found guilty of stealing the identities of cancer patients at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where she worked. Marlene Honore stole the identities of four patients while working as a temporary registration clerk. Honore also used her jobs through a temp agency to steal the identities of two co-workers at Boston's Logan International Airport. She will be sentenced on June 28.

A former hospital worker accused of preying on cancer patients by sneaking into their records and stealing their identities was convicted yesterday on six counts of identity fraud, Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said yesterday. Marlene Honore, 29, of Woonsocket, R.I., was found guilty of using the personal information of four patients at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to fraudulently obtain goods and services in their names. She was also found guilty of stealing the identities of an employee at Boston's Logan International Airport and that victim's daughter while working at the airport. Evidenceshowed that Honore, while working through a temp agency between 1999 and 2000, used her job as a registration clerk at Dana-Farber to get the patients' information. Prosecutors said Honore used items stolen from the purse of a worker at Logan when she worked there in 1999 to get cellphone service. The financial losses to all the victims came to about $4,000. ``The victimization of patients by hospital employees is an egregious breach of trust,'' Conley said. ``More people are victimized by identity fraud than almost any other crime, and, unfortunately, most don't even know they've been targeted until too late.'' Honore will be sentenced June 28.
