Google security vulnerability solved by Finjan

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

Google's recent vulnerability was discovered by internet security software maker Finjan Software. The problem could have allowed a remote attacker to steal users' identities. Google acted within 36 hours and it was fixed.

Israeli Internet security software maker Finjan Software detected and informed Google of a critical vulnerability of its web site. The incident occurred in late September when Finjan's Malicious Code Research Center (MCRC) identified the problem. The Israeli security company went public with the information on Monday only after the problem was fixed. "Google was very cooperative and acted on the information within 36 hours," said Limor Elbaz, Finjan's vice president of business development and strategy. The Israeli security firm detected a cross-site scripting vulnerability. "This could have led to the stealing of identities, allowing a remote attacker to deceive innocent users into downloading malicious code or providing personal and confidential information," said Mr. Elbaz. The MCRC is the leading research department at Finjan and is dedicated to the research and detection of security vulnerabilities in Internet and email applications as well as other software. - ADVERTISEMENT "We analyze major search engines and e-commerce sites for their weaknesses in an attempt to improve security," said Mr. Elbaz. In July, Finjan signed a licensing agreement with Microsoft for its Internet security solutions. Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft made an equity investment of an undisclosed amount in the Israeli security firm (see Microsoft Inks Finjan Deal). Founded in 1995, Finjan has gone through several rounds of financing. The most recent was a $10-million round in June 2004 led by Cisco Systems. Other investors include Israel Seed Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Benchmark Capital.
