U.S. RDA isn't enough: good nutrition is impossible without taking vitamin supplements

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

If you're not taking nutritional supplements or eating superfoods like chlorella and spirulina, there's no way you're getting adequate nutrition. Today's foods are nutritionally depleted, and supplementing your diet is the only way to meet even the basic U.S. RDA requirements, not to mention going beyond them in order to achieve maximum health.

Truly, if you rely on foods alone, you'll never be as healthy as you could be, especially if you eat any junk foods, cow's milk, soft drinks, hydrogenated oils or other disease-causing foods and beverages.

Pam Mathis, a registered dietitian with offices in west Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch, uses vitamins in her practice and supports their use.

"It's obtained from the sun, so people who are outside don't need more of it," Mathis said.

But people in different climates or who are indoors all the time should take a supplement, she said.

Dietitians go over nutritional assessment, lifestyle and personal food choices.

Estimated costs for a dietitian's initial visit ranges from $80 to $100, Mathis said.

Other dietitians agree, including Susan Hall, a registered dietitian in Bradenton.

"Vitamins can't do everything; you need to eat healthy food to stay healthy," Hall said.
