Public pressure forcing NASA to consider saving Hubble telescope

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

The public won't let the agency throw away hundreds of millions of dollars in useful in-orbit hardware...

NASA didn't want to save the Hubble Space Telescope, but now Hubble may save NASA, and it's because the public would not let Hubble die.

The space agency didn't want to repair the telescope, which is expected to run down by 2008 if it doesn't get new batteries for power and gyroscopes to keep it stable.

O'Keefe relented, agreeing to entertain proposals for a robotic repair mission to the telescope.

NASA has long used robots, for example the recent successful Mars rovers.

In fact, some of the work accomplished by astronauts could have been left to robots except for the agency's determination --- wisely, we think --- to maintain the manned space program.
