Roomba 530 Vacuum Robot Product Review

A NaturalNews PhotoTour by Mike Adams

So let's review the big questions I asked at the beginning of this photo tour:

• Does the robot clean your house effectively?
Absolutely. It gets the job done with impressive completeness.

• Does it really save time versus sweeping your floors yourself?
No question about it. Even though you have to clean the brushes and empty the receptacle bin, Roomba saves you lots of time vs. doing all the cleaning yourself.

• What are the main features and technologies in the Roomba robot, and do they really work as advertised?
They do seem to work as advertised. The auto-charging feature seems a bit inadequate to me, since Roomba doesn't seem to be very good at finding the charger when it needs to.

• Is it worth the $300 price?
That depends on the value of your time. If you enjoy manual labor and your time is only worth $6 / hour, then buying a Roomba doesn't make any sense. But if you'd rather have help cleaning your house, and your time is worth more like $20 / hr (or more), then Roomba pays for itself in the first few cleaning cycles. And after that, it just saves you time and effort for a long, long time...

• Is the iRobot company a good company worth supporting?
That depends. While the Roomba robot looks like a great product, I'm concerned about the ethics of the iRobot Corporation and the fact that it is exploring ways to arm military robots with various weapons (like the Taser for now). Will the company ever manufacture fully-armed "Terminator" robots to be used by the U.S. military? In my opinion, I don't think they could resist the profits.

Depending on how much you believe various sci-fi storylines, the iRobot Corporation could either become a threat to the survival of humanity (i.e. "Terminator") or it could be a great aid to improving the quality of life of consumers and soldiers everywhere. I don't pretend to predict the future on this issue, but I am concerned by the fact that the company has not been willing to disavow the concept of arming robots with lethal weapons. In fact, it seems to be headed in that direction as far as I can tell.
